It was great to be back on the saltwater and back on the boat for the first time in 2020.  I hosted my friend and his two grandsons the first two days and my 14-year fishing buddy the next two days.  The first day was mostly clear, but we started the second day in some heavy fog so we had to be extra careful making our way out to the North Jetty.

The first two days we landed 5 large Black Drum and had one double hook up.  It was fun seeing my friend's grandsons fight those big Black Drum and they did great keeping the fish on the line.  We only missed landing two big fish due to a broken leader and one pulled the hook.

The next two days we landed 15 big uglies (aka - Black Drum).  The second day was foggy again and it is always weird seeing the large anchored ships only about 2/10 of a mile away appear and disappear in the fog.

The Black drum on this trip ranged from about 14 to 38 pounds and most of them were active and put up a good fight.

We did see some Black Drum floating on the last day due to improper venting of the fish.  Many of these fish are 10-20 years old, so it's always sad to see one of them floating on top of the water and struggling to go back down into the water.  Anyone fishing in 25+ feet of water for Black Drum needs to know how to do this:
